How Can Chiropractic Help Me?

A diagram of the human autonomic systemHow do you know if chiropractic is the best option for you and your family?

Chiropractic care is used both by those that are suffering as well as those who aren’t necessarily in pain but are looking to be as healthy as possible.

In order to understand how chiropractic care may be able to help you, it’s important to understand what chiropractors do and how the body works. Chiropractors are spine and nervous system specialists. The way that your body heals and functions is through the brain, spinal cord and network of nerves that exit the spine to supply every single organ, tissue and cell in your entire body! The purpose of your spine is to protect the spinal cord and these important nerves that carry messages to all parts of the body.

Different stressors in your life can cause subtle shifts or misalignments in the spine which can interfere with the messages travelling back and forth between your brain and body through the nervous system. These stresses can be physical (poor posture, car accidents, repetitive movements), mental (work and relationship stress) and even chemical (toxins in our environment, medications, food choices).

The misalignments that these stressors create are called subluxations. Chiropractors are specialists at detecting and correcting spinal subluxations which enables your body to return to a state of ease where it can begin to heal and function naturally. As your body begins to heal better you will experience a decrease in need for medications like pain-killers, muscle relaxants or anti-inflammatories. There are many conditions that respond well to chiropractic care:

Conditions We See

  • Back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Shoulder, arm and hand pain
  • Numbness and tingling
  • Tension or migraine headaches
  • Carpal tunnel
  • Vertigo
  • Dizziness
  • Balance issues
  • Degenerative disc disease
  • Spinal stenosis
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Pregnancy and paediatric issues
  • Disc bulges
  • Disc herniations
  • Sciatica (pain travelling down one or both legs)
  • And more

In addition to these benefits, many of our patients notice quality of life improvements in other areas of their health. We often hear patients describe better breathing, digestion, energy levels, mood and sleep patterns.

While all patients can benefit from generic spinal flexibility exercises, some of our patients require unique postural and reconstructive exercises through the use of a spinal orthotic device. Our advanced x-ray software takes specific measurements of your spine to demonstrate whether it is properly aligned over your centre of gravity.

For patients that have a structural shift we recommend and prescribe specific corrective devices to physically change your posture and the alignment of your spine. If you are prescribed a spinal orthotic we will schedule a future follow up x-rays to track your progress and success at restoring proper spinal posture and alignment.
