If you were to ask the average person on the street all of the conditions that chiropractic can benefit, very few would be aware it has a role to play in weight loss.  People who endeavour to release weight and commence a program of weight loss always get better results when they are under chiropractic care at the same time.

The science behind this assertion can be found in an article that was published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism in February 2012.  For those of you wanting to read the article, you can go to the following link:  https://academic.oup.com/jcem/article/97/2/605/2836409

In this study, 42 overweight or obese individuals were assessed over a 12 week period of attempted weight loss.  The study found that the participants who had the hardest time losing weight were those who had nervous systems that were stuck in a pattern of stress.  In past articles I have spoken about the autonomic nervous system, which is the part of your nerve system that controls organs, gland and blood vessels.  The autonomic nervous system has sympathetic nerves (fight or flight nerves) that are active when you are under stress, and parasympathetic nerves - nerves that are active when you are in a state of rest and relaxation.

Unfortunately, many of us live in a state of chronic stress.  Life is so busy.  We are inundated with negative messages from the media.  We are constantly in a state of worry, we are overwhelmed by commitments and obligations, and the pace of life leaves us feeling like we're never really relaxed.  When this is the case, the sympathetic, stress-situation nerves are overactive and the parasympathetic rest-situation nerves are inactive.  This is also referred to as increased sympathetic tone, or decreased parasympathetic tone.  You want these two branches of your nerve system to be in balance if you are going to successfully release unwanted pounds.

Increased sympathetic tone is one of the reasons why so many people who lose weight end up putting it back on again.  When your sympathetic nerve system is working overtime, your body manufactures more stress hormones like cortisol which elevates your insulin levels, a hormone that causes your body to go into fat storage, rather than fat burning mode.

Amazingly, regular chiropractic care has been shown to balance the 2 parts of the autonomic nervous system.  If your body is in a chronic state of stress, chiropractic adjustments cause a calming to the sympathetic nervous system.  When this happens, the hormones that regulate your metabolism and weight loss are balanced and you have a better chance of succeeding with your weight loss goals.

I am presently working on a weight release workshop that I hope to have ready in the coming weeks.  If this is a workshop that you would be interested in attending, please speak to the girls at the front desk and have them add your name to the list.

Yours in Health,

Dr. Tim

I have been seeing Dr. Tim and his team since December 2016. I am grateful for every adjustment I've received. Instead of just treating your current ailment, Dr. Tim goes after the overall health of your spine and nervous system as you will learn at your info session. I came to Dr. Tim with tingling hands and numbness in both my arms, not only has this improved but I'd say by February I was feeling the best I've felt for the past 7 years.....body, mind and soul. And I have my Grace team, my denne roll and the few stretches Dr. Tim has given me to thank for it! So what are you waiting for.....give my Grace family a call today....you will not regret it!!

I have been attending Grace Chiropractic for many years now. Dr Tim was the first chiropractor I saw, and he is is much more than just a chiropractor. Dr Tim and the rest of the office staff are so focused on the well being, mind, body and soul, of each of their patients. You never walk into the office without a warm greeting, and you always leave with an uplifted spirit. Dr Tim not only makes adjustments and corrects any pain, but he gives you the tools to adjust your lifestyle to ensure you are the healthiest version of yourself. I am very grateful to all the staff at Grace Chiropractic!
